Blessings Darlings!
Since I'm currently doing one daily offering shortly before midnight each night, and it's the 'big formal one' of the day, one of the things I'm offering is the light from a candle. I don't want the candle to burn TOO long, and I do this offering outside, so I don't want the wind to blow it out on windy nights. Therefore, I use Hanuka candles, bought in bulk at the grocery store on half price after Hanuka. 44 candles in a box, assorted colors, burn at least half an hour.
But that wind thing is still an issue, even with pretty protector I put over the candle. The problem is that the candle holder raises the candle too high for good protection. When I dare to go into stores again I will likely look for a taller one ... or shorter candle holder ...
I COULD maybe get away with using a 7 day candle for this - those jarred candles are 'recessed' enough in the jar that they might not be blown out by the wind. But ... I'm doing this outside. I'd light it, let the offering burn for a while, then put it out again. Sounds fine, until you realized that this is summer, and bugs are attracted to flames. The hot liquid wax would end up with the bodies of the dead bugs. NOT the offering I want to give. Maybe I'll be able to use them in winter.
Update - I did some spelunking in the Conjure Cabinet, and found a lower candle holder, AND it allows the protector thing in it as well.
I was going to make crepes for dinner tonight, filling them with the leftover chicken and the wild greens (lambs quarters and spiny hogweed) I harvested yesterday. I made the filling, which is wonderful. But making the actual crepes seemed like work, so instead we're having it over egg noodles. Everyone is happy this way, too.
Yesterday we got a little rain. Under 1/4 inch, but with a glorious rainbow. Suz, of course, filmed the rainbow and I didn't. Today no rainbow, but a lot more rain. With lots of thunder and lightning. I won't have to water the garden for ... maybe two days. The whole landscape just went 'Ahhhhhhh'. It's a wonder filled thing.

Yes! Yes! Yes!
Blessings darlings!
I'm glad you're here.
Now, go read THIS, because it's the most useful magical advice you'll get today, this week, maybe this year. http://candlesmokechapel.com/2013/06/29/that-candle-is-not-magic/

Common Spell Creation
Blessings, Darlings!
I'm going to start out the spell creating series with the types of spells most commonly done by us magick users: common spellcraft done by magic users. You have a need, you work up a spell, you do it, it's over.
These types of spells tend to rely heavily on use of correspondences and symbolism, and moving energy around thru' correspondences to the charged symbols. This is the stuff of spell kits: they provide incense/colored candles/oils/herbs that have some correspondence to the job to be done, and some words to be said. The buyer charges the symbol (often by anointing the candle with the oil or carving a word or two into the candle), then recites the words of the spell as a means of directing energy.
This is stuff you can also easily get together yourself. Lists of basic correspondences are all over the web, there are books full of them, etc. What color? You can look at a list of chakras and use the colors of them that relate to the need. Oil? Here I'd look up what COMMON herbs relate to the need, and add that to an unscented cooking oil - corn or vegetable (Okay, that's really soy) or peanut oil. Incense? On the whole, I'd say you can't go wrong with Jasmine, but that's because for ME all magic that I do pretty much happens in the Astral, and that corresponds to the Kabalistic sphere of Yesod. Your mileage may vary, of course!
Doing the research for correspondences brings two different things to your magical world. First - it helps increase your knowledge. If you've been reading this blog for any amount of time, you know I'm all for that! The more you have internalized the better your magic will be.
Second, doing the research work starts the magical work. It starts building your intent, it starts building the energy, it brings coherence to the magic. You don't get that from a spell kit - the kit may have all the correspondences down cold, but they are not part of YOUR energy or intent. Doing the work yourself makes them YOURS.
Powerful stuff!
Now, about the 'words' to a spell: they CAN be very powerful. Not the words themselves, but putting your intent out in sound to the universe. So don't be dependent on the words of others, unless you're doing some magic that requires some really serious invocation of some divinity. And that's pretty rare in spellwork - more common in theurgy than in thaumaturgy. So write what you Will. And, really, try to memorize it JUST because it hard to feel/look powerful reading from a cheat sheet! That's why rhyme comes in - spells are just easier to memorize if the words have rhyme and meter!
I'll cover 'how to magically charge an object' another time, this is enough of a blog post for one day.

Ahhhhhhhhhh
Blessings Darlings!
Stress. We all have it - life is full of things that we feel are stressful. So, what to do about it?
Short Term Fixes
I get tension head aches. Which are caused by holding stress in my neck and shoulders. So I have to take time during higher-stress times to work on relaxing those muscles. Head circles, shoulder circles, getting the Chubby Hubby or Spawn to give me neck/shoulder rubs, rubbing my neck myself, all those type of things.
Visualization works here as well. I can close my eyes and take a few deep breaths. While doing that I visualize the breath going to my shoulders/neck, breaking up the tension there, and the tightness leaving with each exhalation. Done when I first feel the headache coming on it can take care of it in just a minute or two!
It can be hard to concentrate when feeling stressed. Start by having a cup of tea (or water). First, doing this interrupts the stress-building pattern. Second, the extra fluids help 'dilute' the cortisol your body produces when stressed.
Again, visualization can be a tool. While I work at home, so can always light a candle and visualize it burning up the stress, allowing me to be calm and focused, you can visualize the stress going to a plant in your office where it is transmuted (like the plant transmutes carbon dioxide into oxygen), or you might have charged and lit a candle for this at some time at home, and when snuffing it charged that, say, 'the flame burns forever in the worlds beyond' so you can send the stress to the candle to be transmuted any time, any day, any where. You can wash your hands, and visualize the stress washing away with the water.
Long Term Fixes
But wouldn't it be best to set up life so there is less stress? Spend a little time early in the day (or the night before) getting things ready for the day. Make a to-do list, many lists, so your day is organized and you don't forget things. Do all you can pre-emptively. Pay attention to details that will trip you up later. Check your facts. Exercise and eat right, so your body can better deal with what stress is going to happen. Give yourself extra time to do, well, EVERYTHING.
