Blessings Darlings!
Busy day today - the Wednesday shopping took me to 5 stores, and I forgot one item anyway. Nothing that can't wait, of course. The stores were crowded with people not wearing masks. That latter part made me unhappy. What makes me even MORE unhappy is getting home and, tho' the chubby hubby said we have two tomatoes - and we need fresh tomato for dinner - that in fact we have NO tomatoes, and if I had known this, I had 5 bloody chances to buy them.
But, no. Since CH is the person in the house at greatest risk of severe illness if HE gets Covid 19 - I spent the Spawn out to the store. Because there was no way in hell that I was going out to the store again. Zero. Zip. Nada.
I also cooked a bunch. And did some other shit. But mostly I was at bloody stores all day. I got exercising in. I haven't meditated. I still have to do daily offerings. I haven't taken my daily medications. I haven't had enough fiber - and only 1 serving of fruits and no veggies. And I keep thinking that it's Saturday.
Sheesh.

Tuesday, Sunny and Cool.
Blessings Darlings!
We haven't quite gotten this 'shop only once a week' thing down yet. Between the store pick up/delivery stuff being dicey and ... well, me being unable to estimate how much half and half we use in a week right now, we're at shopping every 6 days rather than every 7 or more days. The Spawn is out shopping today, with a long list and vowing to hit several stores. I'd sort of rather that he'd hit just one and get what he can there, but he's a grown man and able to make his own decisions.
Even if he disagrees with me.
The storms of yesterday have moved out, it's sunny but WAY cooler today. I need to get the hills for the potatoes set up and then plant the potatoes in them. I started more seeds yesterday - more basil since what I planted before didn't sprout, and I've little hope in these seeds either, new seeds/new packets of sweet bell peppers and cayenne peppers.
Today I finished making hills for my potatoes, and planted the seed potatoes in them. For once - I had the exact amount of seed potatoes that I needed. It's a miracle! I'd like to make the hills taller and wider, but at least they are started. These are white potatoes. It's a month too early to plant the sweet potato slips, unless I do them in pots and take them in on cold night. And the next week or so is going to have COLD nights, so ... nope.
Next in the garden I'll probably direct seed spinach, and transplant the radishes.
Spawn shopped - Aldi's had everything on the list except flour. And I don't have a DESPERATE need for that yet. So we're good for another 5 or 6 days, depending on when we run out of milk.
Yesterday I spend 5 minutes on my exercise bike. Knees weren't happy, so I stopped. Knees weren't thrilled all last night. Knees are downright pissy today. Well, I got a data point, didn't I?
w00t! First fight with my husband during quarantine! Will the good times NEVER end?

Freezer Eatin'
Blessings Darlings!
The funniest part of Eating While Broke - and there really are LOTS of funny things to it - is the 'creating meals out of the stuff buried in the freezer' part. We're spending almost no money at the store any more - only milk, cat food, and a few odds and ends this week (small yogurt, can of water chestnuts, egg roll wrappers, etc) - but the Chubby Hubby thinks this week's menus are totally outstanding.
Sunday - Home made pizza, salad, fruit.
Monday - Stir Fry using Reduced price Mystery Raw Meat, home grown cabbage, home sprouted bean sprouts, and rice.
Tuesday - Shish Ka Bob, using reduced priced beef, home grown zucchini, and onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, served in home-made pita. May need yogurt for sauce.
Wednesday - Korean Seafood Pancakes and ... probably seasoned bean sprouts.
Thursday - Kalbi (Korean BBQ Ribs) using reduced price thin flanken, rice, green beans, salad
Friday - Fried Chicken - from reduced price chicken, potatoes, broccoli, salad
Saturday - Pulled Pork - last of those 50 cent a pound pork shoulders, cole slaw, rolls, fried leftover potatoes
Sunday - Egg Rolls from scratch, using the pulled pork and some salad shrimp. Will probably buy rather than make wrappers.
Monday - Rumaki - we now have a bag full of frozen livers from whole chickens we've bought. Will need to buy a can of sliced water chestnuts, spicy green beans, rice, salad
And when I type reduced price I mean the meat was already on sale but hadn't moved, so the store knocked the price down lower. Cabbage, bean sprouts, and green beans from the garden are the main vegetables used this week. Zucchini will start taking over next week. Garden cucumbers and more cabbage are in salads.
The fried chicken and the rumaki are the only things that use 'intact' pieces of meat ... and in the rumaki's case the pieces are accumulated livers from whole birds made extraordinary. The rest all use meat cut small and mixed with other stuff.
I've got sweet corn, but no idea where to fit it in. I may freeze it. Also have 6 granny smith apples, which I'll probably bake for desserts. As a result of that ... we may need to buy some whipped cream.

Prep Shopping
Blessings, Darlings!
As of this moment, I have $12 left to spend on food thru' the end of Thursday, given our food budget and the shopping I've done so far. Which is pretty good, given that I underspent by $8 last week, and I really don't have anything left of the 'need for meals this week' list.
Which leaves me more money than usual to add to our food storage. And that's a good thing since all of us preppers and survivalists and preparedness and just plain broke folks have noticed that food prices have been rising thru' the roof! Last summer's droughts in Europe and Asia, this winter's flooding in Australia and South American (well, summer floods for them) have caused havoc in food prices. Rising oil prices are affecting food prices, too, as is diversion of grain into ethanol and into increased meat production. And the weather we've had in the US is causing 'temporary' jumps in produce prices due to damage to crops in the deep south and California. Even my winter veggie mainstay, cabbage, has been hit hard by the freezes in Florida. Strawberries are off the scale in price!
So I'm looking at what foodstuffs to use the food dollars for. I could use more white wine for cooking, I'm getting a bit low. That won't take much of it. So, do I get two 5 pound bags of sugar and one 5 pound bag of flour to add to my storage? Or do I get another 50 pounds of wheat berries really meant for livestock feed at Southern States or Tractor Supply?
