I have set up a grocery pick up with Walmart, which I usually call The Evil Empire.  I still worry a lot about their employees, but it's certainly better for them that folks do pick up than shop.

Apparently I'm not working hard enough for The Morrigan.  A bit ago, I was PMing a friend (Hi Keri!) and a crow came by and told me to get back to work. So out to the garden I went, back to shoveling cow shit.  Paused to talk to the farmer as she was driving away, having cared for the cows (3 new calves!), and after a couple of minutes of that, the crow came back to tell me off again.

An Morrigu is NOT the one sending those memes around saying "it's okay be not get stuff done because you're traumatized."  Her message to ME (and yours may well vary) is "get shit done or you'll get more traumatized later."  Not by HER necessarily, but by other issues/situations that come up. 



Okay - apparently that message from The Morrigan was ... local.  That I needed to work in the garden and get the laundry off the clothes line BEFORE IT STARTED RAINING.  At any rate, I did as much as I could in the garden before my back and legs insisted that I stop.  And then it immediately started sprinkling.

See what happened there?  I made a mistake, and took the leap that a totally personal (and possibly just applicable for a few hours)  message from the Gods was for everyone, everywhere, for all time.  I declared it to be UNIVERSAL.  And I was wrong.  I . fucked . that . up.

At least I won't need to water the seedings today.

Anyway - did laundry, hung it on line, moved it to dryer when rain started.  Worked a lot in the garden.  Offering make to The Morrigan.  Made bread.   Went to the grocer to get things that Walmart said they didn't have.  Will probably find out more things that they didn't have after I do the pick up tomorrow.

Is Pagan Reconstructionism Plagiarism?

I got asked this after last Friday's blog post on plagiarism in the Pagan blogosphere/FB universe.  The question make me giggle.

Nope, if there is ANYTHING you can count on among Reconstructionists is that they cite their sources.  And demand to know the sources of others.  They will delight in telling you which Homeric Hymn they are reciting, where in the Táin Bó Cúalnge a reference comes from, what Snorri wrote down about this, that, or the other.

It's not to say that they eschew all UPG, but that they consider scholarship a virtue that should shine forth in their lives and practice.

Is Asking Questions Bad?

It's JUST 10 an, and I've already asked for facts backing up assertions three different times.  Two of those times have been about magic/spirituality. The other was on gas prices. 

My husband laughed and pointed out that I was asking about the Physics of Magic.  He's right. I was. I am. I do that. I INSIST on doing that. I've done it before.  My BOS is a lab notebook.  See my previous post http://fernsfronds.blogspot.com/2010/09/magical-metrics.html.

No one, so far, can back up their claims.  But only in the Pagan/Witch realm was the question taken as at all improper.  Whether the issue was "souls/spirits only come in rigid categories", or "Midnight is the witching hour", or "all Witches celebrate Yule/have Yule Logs/Have ashes from their Yule fire" or anything else - asking why that would be and for supporting info did not get .... well, anything in the way of answers, to put it nicely.

If you see Midnight as the liminal time, fine - but can't you say WHY, when the ancients seem to have looked at dusk/dawn as the liminal times?  If you see rigid lines between male/female/queer/etc souls - why would this be, and where would it have sprung from?  If you see gas prices as rising because the dollar is falling - show me where gas prices are falling in countries where the currency is rising relative to the dollar, would you?

If you are saying it's from UPG, then own up to that.  It's okay.  EVERYTHING started as UPG at one time, but while it's UPG don't imply that it's best for everyone, let alone DONE by everyone. If you got it from reading the Malleus Maleficarum, then own that.  AND then explain why you belief that is reliable.  Please. Now.

At any rate - claim what you will.  But back that thing up.
