Blessings Darlings!
Welcome to Juneteenth! While THIS year more of you than ever before know what it is/celebrates, if you're not clear on it, here is a link - https://www.oprahmag.com/life/a32893726/what-is-juneteenth/. What I'm going to point out is that while Texas likes to claim that it wasn't part of the Old South ... in fact it totally WAS part of it.
Juneteenth is going to be celebrated somewhat differently this year, due to Coronavirus. Which is, of course, hitting Black people hard BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT ALL HEALTH PROBLEMS DO - THEY HIT THE ALREADY OPPRESSED HARD. Alternet has an article blaming it on Black churches continuing to meet. The article doesn't go into the historic role of the Black Church, the services it provides, the distrust in the Black community of the government and if the govt is for or against them (Tuskegee study, anyone?), and that churches are where many folks ORGANIZE to survive/resist racism ... and that racism is even more of a problem than Coronavirus. As epidemiologists have been pointing out for the last few weeks.
Coronavirus isn't acting in a racism-free environment.
I have a bunch of solstice and eclipse things to work on - so this is the whole of today's post.
Frondly, Fern
